A previous United States authorities cyber stability researcher has launched a crowd-sourced ransomware payments tracking web site that can be applied to trace ransoms compensated to criminals in the bitcoin cryptocurrency.

Termed Ransomwhere, the web-site was launched by Jack Cable who worked for the US authorities Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Company (CISA).

He now collaborates with previous Facebook chief facts stability officer Alex Stamos and erstwhile CISA head Chris Krebs.

Ransomwhere is publishing facts on the quantities compensated to criminals, along with the bitcoin addresses they use.

Presently, the web-site is tracking a whole of just over US$57.5 million in payments.

Most of the ransom revenue tracked has been compensated out to the Netwalker gang, adopted by REvil (also recognized as Soinokibi) and RagnarLocker.

Cable and Ransomwhere are encouraging ransomware victims to report demands they have acquired, and aims to be a source for the stability group.
